Modernica decides to reissue Criss Cross Bubble Lamp in Cigar, Ball and Pear shapes. The Criss Cross was the last of George Nelson Bubble Lamps that Modernica reintroduced.
Criss Cross Pear Bubble Lamp
Modernica recently blogged “Criss Cross Revived!”, comparing “Kris Kross” the 90’s hip hop group, with the latest reissued Criss Cross Bubble Lamps.
Both are iconic and unique. Those kids were electric and their hit was one of catchiest songs at dance clubs at that time. They also created a crazy fashion trend. Kids wore their jeans backwards and were jumping to the song. Maybe the two Chris’ or ” mack daddies” of Kris Kross will make their own comeback someday soon and we’ll see kids wearing their jeans backwards and bringing jiggedy back.
It’s been 15 years since the Aeron chair came to the market and revolutionized office seating. This chair has become a design icon and what is even more unbelievable is that it has held that position for such a long time. Nobody could have predicted the success of this chair. It has literally dominated the ergonomic seating market for years. I’ve been wondering for a few years now when the Aeron will be knocked from its top spot on the podium of office excellence.
So, who else would take a shot at dethroning the Aeron other than Herman Miller. I mean why wait for someone else to do it.
Seven years in the making and Herman Miller has finally released the Embody chair. Designed by Bill Stumpf (one of the original designers of the Aeron, recently deceased and just short of seeing the completion of this project) and Jeff Weber. We have a couple of Embody chairs in the showroom and people are starting to fight over them. Herman Miller took their time with this one and the initial response is that they have definitely got it right.
It is a one size fits all chair that actually claims to be good for you.
All that and it is Green in that it is 95% recyclable and cradle to cradle silver certified.
The timing on this couldn’t be better, because we now have “Lifework Portfolio” in the showroom which offers home office solutions for everyone and the two go together like milk and cookies.
Finally, the Home office gets dished up a nice serving of style!
A couple of years ago, when I was at ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York, I remember telling several people at both Herman Miller and Knoll that there was a massive hole in the contemporary home office furniture market.
They are the first to respond with their newly released “Lifework Portfolio”There are several amazing pieces in the line and the timing couldn’t be better.
Foscarini offers a creation that cannot merely be defined an addition to the range, but is a project with its own personality that makes it totally different from the previous transparent version. The warmth of the new colour lights up the transparency of the material – polymethylmethacrylate – creating a lamp that is even richer and more splendid and accentuating its decorative ability. Encouraged by the commercial and media success of Caboche lamp, Foscarini is ready to focus on the collection once again, with a light centred on the colour of the sphere, now a golden yellow. The brilliancy and transparency typical of the range remain unaltered, thanks to a perfectly calibrated chromatic density. The basic structure of the ring form, on which the spheres are anchored and the upper and lower screens in white satinised glass that govern the light source also remain unaltered. Unlike the transparent version with its understated richness, Caboche Golden Yellow will satisfy the transversal taste of those who love sophisticated, evident luxury. Since 2005, the year which saw the debut of Caboche in its hanging version, followed in 2006 by the floor, table, wall and ceiling versions, Foscarini has produced millions of brilliant spheres. Patricia Urquiola’s idea, inspired by a bracelet and transformed into a rich and multi-faceted lamp, immediately revealed the innovative aspect that is the basis of every successful project: a precious form and a perfect fusion of different individuality that together create the body and the luminous effect of the lamp. Light becomes the protagonist, thanks to the crown of spheres in which every single one produces a completely different image. Design by Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto.
Recently Artemide started a new campaign called “I light you”. Here are all the six Artemide I Light You shoots.
I saw a photo of a lamp by Karim Rashid called the Cadmo by Artemide. I then saw it in person when it came into the showroom. It is quite a show piece.
EIGHTY SIX, 86, Hmmmmmm, a century ago, a guy would probably have been quite happy to have made it to half of that. I’m quickly approaching half of that and when I look at a resume like Warren Platner’s, I am starting to feel like I better start accomplishing something, Quick !! Warren Platner was not only an amazing architect, but also a designer of several great modernist pieces from the last century. His tables and chairs from the 1960’s still stand out for their simplicity and their beauty. The first time I saw one of these pieces, I was at a clients place and she had an original table that she had bought from Knoll while living in the U.S. in the late 1960’s. The amazing thing is that it looked exactly like the one that we now show in our showroom. It is a great design, that has stood the test of time. The side table just happens to also be one of those pieces that can be purchased quite reasonably. So even the smallest of budgets, can add this as one of your favourite pieces. What is truly amazing is the impact it can have on a room for such a small scaled piece if furniture.
So, Mr. Platner, thanks for the memories. You will definately live on in the lives of those that your great designs have touched and those they will touch in the future.
Well, what to talk about today? This one is a no brainer. In all the years that we have been a Herman Miller for the Home retailer, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked whether I think that HM will ever make the Eames Lounge chair and Ottoman in Rosewood again. My response, "probably not in my lifetime". Well, the next best thing has happened. In what is the 50th anniversary year of the creation of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, HM has not only released a 50th anniversary edition in any of the current veneer options (Natural cherry, Cherry, or Walnut) , but they have also made available a new version in "Santos Palisander" which is a sustainable type of Rosewood.
"The 50th anniversary year is also the occasion for the introduction of a striking and richly grained veneer called Santos Palisander, a sustainably sourced tropical wood from Forest Stewardship Council certified forests."
We are excited to bring our first model of this new veneer in to our showroom, as we can start to order this now for the showroom and early in May for clients, at which time it will be available on-line as a completely separate chair on gabrielross.com
Another option that makes this chair even more luxurious is the optional upgrade to Edelman leather. Wow!!
