By: Paul "We are loving our Cassina, Philippe Starck "212 Lazy Working Sofa" out here in Banff. Really roughing it in the woods. To everybody chez Gabriel Ross, "Merci""
By: Ben "This is a photo of my bedroom, I bought my Aeron chair from you guys a few years back and I love it beyond belief."
By Sebastien "A corner of our dinning room, with a Joe Colombo chair, Castelli container and Iittala Aalto votive. A really nice, all white room with loads of sun light!"
By: Lisa "With amazing support from staff at GR on ideas and options, my mid century modern Hans Olsen couch and chair were redone with environmentally friendly, comfortable, and durable laytex and white leather. Matched with my awesome bubble lamp, my modest home is sure a nice place to lounge. Thanks GR for ideas, quality, and commitment to customer satisfaction."
By: William "Our Platner table and Wegner chair prove that things you love will always look good together. The chair is amazingly comfortable. Sitting to read is pure joy. Your hand touches the smooth wood, then drifts over to find the glass of beer at the perfect height. The light coming over your shoulder hits the book at just the right angle. La dolce vita."
By: Nana "This room doubles as both our dining room and kids area, so both utilitarian and playful."
By: Nicole "This is my basement after renos and now it is a sunny and very welcoming place for relax. I was reaching for a side table with a place to put magazines and this Kartell Componibili is perfect for this corner. I also bought a miniature from Herman Miller Eames rocking chair to dream about have one to sit on!"
By: Jackie "We love our Artemide Tizio desk lamp because it’s so architectural looking and versatile – a design classic! I love how I can adjust its shape to get a whole new look every time I’m feeling like changing my space around. Thanks GR for making such iconic pieces like this, available to people in Victoria!”
By Leasa "This is my daughter Olivia sitting on her Verner Panton chair from Gabriel Ross. I figured the best way to capture her beauty and also the flowing curves of this iconic chair was to place them in front of a simple black backdrop void of any distinguishable environment."
By: Josh "1955 Arne Jacobsen office chair beautifully reupholstered in grey felt by GR. George Nelson Bubble Lamp also from GR. We can’t wait for our Eames storage unit to arrive! Other items pictured: Hans Wegner dining set, Zenith rope-edge RAR, Carl Malmsten coffee table, Norwegian armchair, and Grete Jalk sofa."
By: Chelan "Although I am maniacal about modern design, it's not everyone's cup of tea. The Bubble Lamps, however, are loved by all. Be they our Tuscan kitchen loving parents, or our rustic farmhouse friends, all adore the inviting glow. My definition of a timeless masterpiece? Something beautiful AND universally marvelled at."
Thanks to all the participants so far – We love seeing our products in happy homes!

The staff at Gabriel Ross are big fans of Dyson’s new fan, or “Air Multipliers”. We have a new display in store, and yes, some of us have put our heads right through them. How could we resist?
Dyson Air Multiplyers in our Showroom
Dyson Air Multiplyers in our Showroom
Dyson likes to take every day products and re-design them so they’re higher performance, longer lasting, and WAY better looking. This fan is an apt example of these efforts. Blade free, the air multiplier sucks in air from the base of the pedestal, circulates around the fan loop, and distributes it out a 1mm gap in a solid, smooth stream. The loop is slightly angled and uses aircraft technology to amplify air flow 15 times. Available in table top and pedestal versions, this fan is for everyone and every room.

Safety and easy maintenance are two more reasons to love this design. There are no rapidly moving parts threatening to chop off a finger or catch and tug a pony tail. And remember how your traditional fan blades are covered in dust when they stop moving? With the Air Multiplier, all it needs a quick wipe with a damp towel – easy peasy! It’s a really amazing product and definitely worth checking out before those hot summer days are upon us. Drop by our showroom at 589 Bay Street to see the fans in person, or get more information from Dyson’s website here.
We’ve received some amazing photos for our contest so far and are hoping to see many more during the final 3 weeks. Here’s a glimpse of the second round of entries:

By: Mitchell "Funky-Fresh Smooth & Cool"
By: Jeff "Recreation of a California loft in a basement using a vinyl mural and mid century classics purchased at Gabriel Ross. The womb chair and elliptical table set the lounge atmosphere."
By: Lisa "With the helpful advice from Trish at Gabriel Ross, we purchased these 'Dr. Yes' chairs by Kartell for our kitchen. While we await the arrival of our new kitchen table, these chairs found a temporary home in the living room. They seem to have attracted some really cute company, who I've affectionately called 'Mrs.Yes' and 'Mr. No'. It's safe to say we're in love with the chairs and of course our precious kids:)"
By: Tessa "loving my table and chairs from Gabriel Ross!"
By: Gary "This is a shot of my office, the Embody chair in front of my 30” monitor and keyboard. It highlights the perfectly tuned curved back that mimics the human spine, and the funky support design. The Embody is the most flexible and comfortable chair I’ve set in, and also with the most unique look."
By: Wendy "I love, love, love my Cattelin Italia kitchen chairs from Gabriel Ross!"
By Andrew and Dara "This Eames chair was our very first piece of modern furniture, after years of looking and dreaming and wishing. I can't even begin to say how excited we were when it came - we love it so much. Unexpected side benefit - it's unbelievably popular with little guests."

Envelop, Bill Stumpf and Jeff Weber for Herman Miller, photo - hermanmiller.com
Herman Miller has introduced a new desk to their all star line up of home office furniture. Envelop is the ergonomic desk. Herman Miller recognized that everything else in a work environment moves around, adjusts, tilts back, etc. and wanted to apply that flexibility to the one static item in the room – the desk.

Bill Stumpf: designer of Herman Miller’s Ergon chair of 1974 and the ever popular Aeron chair, and Jeff Weber: designer of the Caper chair, are the collaborators behind Envelop.

Envelop has an “infield” section of desk surface that moves forward 7 inches and also pivots down 7 degrees to accommodate the user’s wrist and hand position as he/she leans backwards. The “infield” is soft and flexible allowing the user’s arms to bend the surface as need be for complete comfort and unhindered access.
Measuring only 30 x 45″ (37 x 45″ when expanded), this desk fits into any office or life/work space. It is clean and trim in design with open legs that are adjustable in height and can be ordered with either glides or locking casters. Â This is versatility at its best. This desk could stream breakfast television in the kitchen before work, be wheeled into the living room after dinner for a movie, and stowed away back into the office for some late night paperwork.

Langara College is making some admirable changes and commitments towards sustainable construction at its Vancouver campus including its LEED Gold Standard library/classroom building.

Utilizing the “stack effect”, the library gathers cool air in the underground garage and a monitoring system activates or deactivates the vents throughout the building to disperse air as needed, maintaining a naturally regulated internal environment. Ground source heating and cooling and a wind tower also adjusts the concrete thermal structure and contributes to the building’s energy conservation. Other resource saving methods include: large, open windows to illuminate study areas with natural daylight and an automatic electric light control that turns on only when necessary and rainwater collecting roof that contributes to irrigating the surrounding landscape.

Teeple Architects Inc. are behind the modern eco friendly design and also mapped out the college’s master plan to attain its environmental goals. Any new construction on this campus will surely be LEED certified with an architecturally modern aesthetic.
What is “LEED”?
According to the Canada Green Building Council:
LEED is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. It provides building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:
- sustainable site development
- water efficiency
- energy efficiency
- materials selection
- indoor environmental quality
Langara’s library project has been featured in Azure, SABMag (Sustainable Architecture and Building) and Construction Business magazine and led to a Canadian Architect Award, an Holcim Acknowledgement for Sustainable Design, and a SAB award for Teeple Architects.
