Christmas Taika glass globes by Iittala
Yup, that’s right.
Gabriel Ross is participating in the apres-Christmas shopping frenzy that is Boxing Week. To make things easy, we’ve decided to offer 10% off our already uber competitive and, in most cases, already discounted online pricing. On everything … well … almost everything. What’s a sale without some small print? So – everything’s 10% off except things that are on our clearance page or already on super special special … er…. some other exceptions might also apply… but mostly, pretty much, almost, nearly but not quite everything is an extra 10% off!  :) The sale also applies to our showroom in Victoria where we’ll be offering some floor model and clearance items at even larger discounts to make room for some exciting new products to start off 2011. So, shop till you drop people! … or just sit at home in the comfort of your newly gifted robe and slippers and shop online at gabrielross.com (when you’re checking out, use the coupon code: “boxingweek2010″)

Tab Table Lamp, Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby 2007, for Flos
Tab, by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby for Flos is an elegant, modern, minimal design in both table and floor lamp versions.

Available in black, white and blue , this light boasts big visual value for a small footprint. It’s rotating head swings horizontally, making it a great task light on top of being beautiful to look at.

Great for small spaces, the table lamp only measures approx. 13″, and the floor lamp 44″ high. I love the understated, quiet nature of this design and think it would make a brilliant bedside lamp, hallway table light, or living room accent light.

Luckily for us, the price point for this little gem is congruent with it’s minimal design at only $295 for the table lamp and $395 for the floor lamp, available here at gabrielross.com.

Meka ALP320 in Manhattan. Image: Daniella Zalcman/The Wall Street Journal
At $100.00 per square foot, the Meka ALP320 is a sweet deal. At least, those in Manhattan sure think so after one of these little modern/ular home nuggets was transplated at the corner of Charles and Washington Street. Toronto designer Jason Halter along with Christos Marcopoulos and developer Michael de Jong, under the brand “Meka World” are behind the popular prototype making waves in New York City’s West Village.
 Meka ALP320
Fabricated out of a shipping container, the manufacturing for this home is in China which is meant to make these units affordable for the masses – a major objective for the young and successful design partnership. Meka World has this to say on their website:
“‘Meka’ (an acronym for modular, environmental, kinetic, assembly), is a combination of their design considerations with a manufacturing and ordering solution that delivers the most cost savings available on the planet. The result was to produce the most luxurious living spaces with a clean modern sensibility, at super affordable prices.”

Sustainability plays a large role in the design and manufacturing of these homes also. Base models are available with sub zero appliances, solar hot water heating, and bamboo walls.

The ALP320 is just one model of a handful of interesting and unique offerings by Meka World. Options include various sizes and shapes including one much larger 2 -level unit seemingly suitable for family living, the HELA1280:

In case you happen to be visiting New York in the near future, you can view the ALP320 in person 10:00-6:00pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays).

Pebble table by Demacker Designs for Bonaldo
Bonaldo’s new Pebble table by Matthias Demacker has been nominated for Interior Design Best of Year award. This unique table was inspired by something that is, here in Victoria, close to home: beach stones polished smooth by the sea.

This design is not only modern and unique, it’s also practical. The open body of the table makes this piece look light and open, and can also serve as valuable storage space for books, magazines, etc…Â Although, you wouldn’t want to put your “Auto Mechanics for Dummies” manual inside this table – this space is reserved for your most treasured art books and design mags.
Constructed of plastic, Bonaldo boasts that this table is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It’s also available to order in all one colour or two colour options – one exterior, one interior.

Pebble is a simple, fun, and functional design that would work in a variety of applications. Designer, Matthias Demacker, will find out if Pebble takes the Accessories Design Best of Year award tonight – Dec. 2nd in NY. Also in the running for an award is Emeco’s 111 Navy Chair in the Seating: Residential/Accent category and Vitra’s new Suita Sofa in the Seating: Residential/Lounge group (contact us for details).
contact us for pricing and details on the Pebble table.
